Veteran Employment and Engagement Resources

We are fortunate to have a number of very effective resources for engaging Transitioning Military, Military Spouses, Reservists, National Guardsmen, and Veterans in our State. Here are some of the best:

Each group above has great resources to offer to the veteran and employer community.  Best of all each will help at no cost to the employer or the military community. To share information with the military community and find out about recruiting events on bases use:

Nationally these organizations provide free support:

Training & Resources for Employers and HR Staff

As you plan for next year, please consider hosting one or more of these events in your community.  Any of them can be customized to your needs.

  • USO of NC Translating & Transitioning: Military to Civilian Workplaces

This half day workshop is designed for hiring managers, business owners, and human resources professionals.   Participants will learn how to successfully identify and evaluate potential candidates with military experience and gain practical knowledge and ideas to help transition those with military backgrounds into the civilian work environment.  Accredited for SHRM CE credit. For more programs see:

  • Military Employment Summits with North Carolina for Military Employment (NC4ME)

Get your Leadership Team and CEO on board with the mission of military hiring.

The most successful military hiring initiatives begin with a firm commitment from an employer’s senior management. NC4ME's Summits bring together senior industry, government, and military leaders to share the business case for hiring military candidates and identify proven strategies that employers can use to incorporate military hiring into their business strategy.

  • NC4ME Hiring Events (Perfect for those companies looking to fill a position today)

Hiring managers connect with military candidates during Hiring Events held inside NC’s major military installations. In contrast to typical “job fairs”, companies and candidates are pre-matched based on candidate interest and company need, which allows for more rewarding interviews or career exploration conversations. Check out www.NC4ME.ORG  for more information.

  • Skillbridge Learning Sessions

Learn how to engage Transitioning Service Members six months before their end of service for unpaid internships approved by the US Department of Labor.  Learn how to craft your program for quick approval. Learn the variations in how the program is administered in each military branch. Contact the NCSHRM Military Liaison Coordinator at Pending approval for SHRM CE credit.

  • Host Veteran and Military Spouse Networking Sessions with your Chapter/Region

This could be an invitation to the more than 1000 NC military professionals practicing HR in their daily roles in the service.  It could be a networking social after hours. Or you could host a Corporate Campus visit at a local employer to introduce servicemembers to your industry. Connect with the NCSHRM Military Liaison Coordinator at to establish a social event with the military community.

  • Presentations- as you need- a SHRM Member

We did one in Asheville last year that was interactive and quite successful.  We can work with you on the needed topic.
