  Dalton is a Partner/Employment Attorney with Hedrick Gardner Kincheloe & Garofalo. Her primary focus is to keep members apprised of legislative and case law developments in the field of employment law as it pertains to the HR arena. Dalton counsels and represents employers on a wide range of issues including hiring and termination practices, policy and handbook drafting, discrimination/EEOC claims, wrongful termination under the North Carolina Retaliatory Discrimination Act (REDA) and Title VII, wage and hour disputes (FLSA), unemployment claims and workers’ compensation claims. We would like to congratulate Dalton on her recent accomplishments of AV Rated/Preeminent by Martindale Hubble; Super Lawyers Rising Stars 2014!

Amber is serving her 5th term on the board and is excited about returning as President-Elect. She also services as an board advisor for the Jacksonville MSA. She has been an active member of LCFHRA since 2011 and a member of SHRM since 2009. She currently works for GE Power as a Human Resource Manager serving the GE Hitachi Nuclear Energy plant in Wilmington. In her previous role, she worked aboard Marine Corps Base Camp Lejeune for a federal contractor called EMI Services as the Human Resources Manager. She graduated with a Master’s degree in Human Resources Management from Webster University in 2011. In addition, she teaches the SHRM essentials program and the new SHRM-CP & SCP Certification exam prep course. Lastly, she has taken on a leadership role with NCSHRM State Council as Certification Director for 2018. Amber is thrilled for the opportunity to serve LCFHRA!

  Kimberly Mueller joined the Board in 2018 as the Membership Co-Chair and is stepping into the role of Secretary for 2019.  She has been an active member of the LCFHRA and a national SHRM member since 2014.  Originally from NY, she earned her Bachelors’ Degrees in Psychology and Spanish at Binghamton and Stony Brook Universities.  She has lived in Wilmington since 2007 with her husband and beagles.  Kim has worked for PolyQuest, a PET resin distributor and manufacturer since 2010, where she’s worn a multitude of hats, working her way up from office admin to accounting to developing a human resources department.  She currently enjoys working there as the Human Resources Manager, where she oversees all things HR and payroll-related.  Kim is looking forward to continuing to learn and contribute to the HR community as a member of the board.  In her spare time, she likes to participate in local animal rescue efforts.

  Debbie Leonard serves on the board as treasurer. This is her seventh term serving in this position. She has been an active member of LCFHRA since 2008 and an active member of SHRM since 2013. She currently works at Cape Fear Academy as the Financial Services Administrator and she holds a Bachelor of Science Degree in Accounting. Debbie is very excited to serve for LCFHRA!

She is also an active member of the Employer Advisory Board at UNCW, Cape Fear Community College, and Miller Motte, while remaining involved in many local non-profit organizations.

  Sarah Wright joined the Board in 2017 as Programming Co-Chair and currently serves as the Programming Chair. She has been an active member of LCFHRA and SHRM since 2012. She currently works for Sturdy Corporation, a local manufacturing company, as the Human Resources Manager in Wilmington, NC. Sarah recently completed her Master’s in Business Administration at East Carolina University and is PHR and SHRM-CP certified. She has more than 15 years of experience in Human Resources. Sarah looks forward to this opportunity to serve the local HR community.

 Katie Laymon joined the LCFHRA Board in 2018 as the Programming Co-Chair.  She has been an active member of the LCFHRA and a national SHRM member since 2014.  Katie is the Office Administrator for the Wilmington office of Cranfill Sumner & Hartzog LLP.   In her time with the firm, she has served in a variety of roles.  She joined the firm as a receptionist in 2004 and moved into roles with increasing responsibilities including working as a legal secretary and paralegal, before taking over the Wilmington Office Administrator role in 2014.  Katie serves as a liaison between the staff and attorneys and is responsible for daily operations including but not limited to human resources, facilities management, finance, event planning, charitable donations and marketing.  She also serves on the firm’s Diversity & Inclusion Committee and Wellness Committee.  Katie received her SHRM-CP certification in February 2018.  She is excited to be serving on the LCFHRA board.

  Jason Walter serves as Team Lead, Client Managers for Hill, Chesson & Woody, a division of Gallagher Benefit Services, Inc. In this position, Jason manages the platform and process of the client services teams in addition to leading the Client Manager team. Jason is responsible for ensuring Client Managers act as extensions of Consultants in servicing clients and managing their benefit plans. Client Managers work through the renewal and strategy processes as well as provide compliance, open enrollment, ACA and claims and billing assistance. He began his career in benefits in 2001 with Flores & Associates, LLC in Charlotte, NC as an Account Manager before being promoted to Senior Account Manager in 2005 with clients nationwide. In that position, he gained a significant amount of experience administering Section 125 Cafeteria Plans and FSA's, COBRA, as well as Section 105 Reimbursement Plans. In 2007 he moved to Raleigh, NC to work with Parker Poe Adams & Bernstein in Human Resources. Jason joined the HCW team in January 2013 as a Client Manager. He was promoted to his current role in January 2016.

  Katey is serving her 3rd term on the board as Website and Social Media Chair. She started her HR career as an Administrative Assistant in 2009.  Over the course of the next several years, she moved from HR Administrator to Generalist to HR Manager at Louisiana Pacific (LP), Wilmington, which is a leading manufacturer of quality engineered wood building products. She has been a member of LCFHRA since 2012 and is also a member of SHRM. Katey received her Senior Professional in Human Resources (SPHR) certification in May 2016. She is responsible for all HR activities at the Wilmington location including employee relations, recruitment, onboarding, benefits, and training. She also enjoys volunteering with guest services at her church.  Katey is excited to begin her 3rd term as a LCFHRA board member.

Student Chapter Chair, Professor of Management/Cameron School of Business, University of North Carolina Wilmington. Jessica has served on the board since 2006. She has been an active LCFHRA member since 2005 and a SHRM member since 2000. Jessica teaches in the human resource management concentration in the Cameron School of Business. Prior to her academic career, she worked as an HR Manager for a national engineering consulting firm. Jessica holds SHRM-SCP and SPHR certifications. In addition to teaching undergraduate and graduate courses, she has an active research program which has included grant research for NASA, the Army Research Institute, and the National Science Foundation. Her research interests focus mainly on team behavior, cognition, and information sharing. Her work has been published in a variety of top-tier academic outlets, including Journal of Applied Psychology, Organizational Behavior and Human Decision Processes, Journal of Management, Human Performance, and Journal of Business Ethics.

  Matthew Rank joined the board in 2018 and is looking forward to his new role as Student Chapter Co-Chair.  He has been an active member of the LCFHRA and SHRM since 2016.  Matthew is currently a Human Resources Generalist at the NC Ports, he enjoys his role and the team he works with.  Prior to joining the NC Ports team, Mr. Rank held several restaurant management positions with a focus in training and development.  Matthew is currently pursuing his master’s degree at UNCW, holds a bachelor’s degree (HR concentration) from UNCW, and two associate’s degrees from NWTC in leadership development and business management.

Katie Fornes joined the Board in 2018 as the Student Chapter Chair. She has been an active member of the LCFHRA since 2014 and national SHRM member since 2015.  Katie graduated from UNC-Wilmington in December 2015 with a BS in Business Administration and a concentration in Human Resource Management. She also holds her SHRM-CP certification. Katie is currently a Human Resources Generalist for N2 Publishing and loves being a part of their HR team. Katie also loves connecting with local students and helping them get involved in the LCFHRA.

Scarlett Chalmers joined the Board in 2014 as the College Relations Chair and currently serves as the Foundation Chair.  She has been an active member of the Lower Cape Fear HRA since 2010 when she was involved with the UNCW Student HRA as a student board member.  Scarlett is the HR Manager for Victaulic, an international manufacturing company which specializes in mechanical pipe joining solutions & grooved pipe joining systems.  Her responsibilities include overseeing three facilities across the southeast.  Scarlett holds a BS in Business Administration from UNC-Wilmington and a MBA with a HR concentration from UW-Whitewater.

Ellen Tucker, CMCE, principal, is a health & welfare consultant for Hill, Chesson & Woody Employee Benefit Services. Ellen uses her vast experience and knowledge to help client employers design, implement and manage a customized benefit strategy that best aligns with their corporate objectives and enhances their retention and recruitment initiatives. She is considered an expert in several areas of benefit finance and administration, making her a valuable asset to the HCW consulting team. Prior to joining HCW in 2007, Ellen served in several capacities related to underwriting, financial administration and product development, including Senior Vice President of Underwriting and Development. In 1988, she was one of the early associates of Carolina Physician’s Health Plan and, over the course of her career, helped the HMO grow into Healthsource and then into its eventual identity – CIGNA Healthcare. Her expertise in underwriting, product development, financial analysis, provider relations, market research, strategic planning and benefit administration makes her one of the most knowledgeable individuals in the healthcare industry today. Ellen received her Bachelor of Science degree with a double major in Business Management and Economics from NC State University. She serves the HCW offices in both the Research Triangle Park and Wilmington areas.

Shannon Carlson joined the Board in 2014 as the Workforce Readiness Chair and has returned as Workforce Readiness Chair effective 2019.  She has been an active member of the Lower Cape Fear HRA since 2012.  Shannon is the HR Manager for EMS LINQ, a software/tech company which specializes in the K12 market.  She has over 15 years’ experience in Recruiting, HR and Employee Relations.  She holds a BS in Psychology from NAU-Flagstaff, AZ. Shannon moved to Wilmington from Orange County, CA in 2008.

Karen has held senior management positions with two Fortune 500 companies – in transportation (UPS) and finance (Bank of America) – in human resources, communications, corporate training and operations. She led the worldwide UPS employee engagement and communication programs for the 1996 Olympic Games, winning several awards from the International Association of Business Communicators.  At Bank of America, she led the compensation re-design for franchise-wide implementation via Six Sigma protocols and received the award for High-Achievement in Leadership. Karen’s appointments to Diversity Councils over the years speak to her passion for workplace performance with respect and dignity. Once relocated to Wilmington, Karen held leadership positions with UNCW in organizational and professional development, and nonprofit capacity building. She is a public servant at heart, loves animals and the environment and is passionate about helping people and organizations grow. She volunteers with NC Coastal Federation, is past Chair and current advisory council member with Cape Fear Literacy Council, and currently serves on the Board of the Lower Cape Fear Human Resource Association. For the past 6 years, she is the owner and President of AGPC, Agile Pappas Consulting and Amazing Grace Pet Care, where she combines her passions for helping organizations, people and pets grow and prosper.

  Nicole Patino is an associate attorney with the Law Offices of Fred T. Hamlet in Wilmington, NC and Greensboro, NC.  She regularly advises and represents businesses and employees with employment and labor issues and claims, including NLRB and ERISA matters, handbook drafting and revisions, employment agreements, severance packages, and claims under Title VII.  She also regularly represents supervisors and managers when they are sued in the course and scope of their employment. Prior to law school, Ms. Patino worked as a substance abuse counselor and uses that experience in practice, interpreting medical records, evaluating emotional distress damages, and assessing the credibility of witnesses. Ms. Patino is also a Board Member for the Greensboro Bar Association Young Lawyers Section and Piedmont Triad Women Attorneys.  Outside work, Ms. Patino enjoys running, is the co-captain of a curling team, and is an enthusiastic trivia player.

  Ann Willard, MAS has been with LCFHRA prior to 2000 and has served on the Sponsorship Committee for 10+ years.  From 1984-1997, she was Assistant HR Manager and Payroll Administrator for Container Products Corporation and then promoted to HR Manager 1997-2000.  In 2000, she joined her husband in their company, All Kinds of Stuff.  All Kinds of Stuff is a promotional products company that has been creating ideas and marketing, a 17.8 billion dollar industry, to customers and clients since 1986.  In 2013, she obtained her MAS – Master Advertising Specialist. Ann is also very active with a local Rotary club, Wilmington Cape Fear Rotary Club where she served as President 2010-2011 and has been Secretary since 2012 and also creates a weekly newsletter for the club.  Ann was named Rotarian of the year 2006-2007 and then again 2009-2010.  Outside of her business, Ann and her husband enjoy traveling and cruising.

Lindsay is the Branch Manager and Director of Client Development for Greene Resources, a Recruiting and Staffing Company in Wilmington, NC.  She joined LCFHRA in 2012 when she moved to Wilmington from Hickory, NC, and is currently serving her 1st year on this board as Sponsorship Co-Chair.  She is looking forward to introducing businesses to the great work that the LCFHRA does, not only in the Human Resources realm, but in the community as well.  Lindsay has had a 21 year Human Resources Career, specializing in recruiting, payroll, training, and business development.  Her current position gives her the opportunity to match great people with great businesses in long term careers.  Lindsay holds a Bachelor of Science degree from Auburn University, with a concentration in Human Resources and Industrial Management.

Jennifer has been a member of the LCFHRA – Jacksonville MSA since 2014 and a member of the Leadership team since 2018.  She has been in the HR field for 13 years after transitioning from operations management.  Jennifer worked previously as a Field HR Manager covering 5 states for Blockbuster, Inc. and then became the HR Director for Copeland Oaks Retirement Community in Ohio.  Jennifer moved to North Carolina in 2013 to take on the role of HR Director for Brynn Marr Hospital in Jacksonville.  In addition to her HR responsibilities, Jennifer also serves as Compliance Officer and Credentialing Coordinator for the Hospital.  Jennifer is excited for the opportunity to serve as the Jacksonville MSA President
