Social Media Awareness
with Stacy Wood from Parker Poe Adams & Bernstein, member of LKNHR Board
Program valid for 1 PDC for SHRM and HRCI recertification!
As the internet - and instant access to information - has become part of our everyday lives, many individuals don't hesitate to tweet daily activities, post funny zingers on Facebook, or "Google" to gather information.
The instinct is common and understandable, but it can lead to a number of problems that may not be readily apparent. Employers' policies and actions related to the internet and social media monitoring can sometimes run afoul of employment laws. This presentation covers the following topics for employers:
- Use of internet searches during the hiring process
- Monitoring employee use of social media
- Benefits of social media policies
- Role of social media in termination decisions
- Legal implications including Title VII, ADA, ADEA, the National Labor Relations Act (NLRA) and discoverability issues
