When & How to Introduce Coaching in Your Organization

with Dr. Louise Korver

Is 2019 the right time to launch a coaching program at your company? Is it time for you to break out of the corporate world and start your own coaching business? As you plan for next year, if you want to launch a coaching practice at your company or start your own firm, what factors should you evaluate?

LKNHR member, Dr. Korver suggests that among the most important questions you should consider are:

  • What are the parts of an effective coaching strategy?
  • How do you implement a coaching program?
  • What is the structure of the coaching marketplace?
  •  Should you use an RFP process or go single-source for coaches?

Louise will discuss the key ingredients of a successful program – whether you outsource or insource the solution.

As the Global Head of Executive Development at EMC Corporation (now Dell) in Boston, Louise launched the company’s first global solution for executive coaching. The thorniest issue she faced was the EMC Vice Chairman’s significant belief that coaching was vital to employee development. He was so committed to this that he had a personal friendship with three coaches and protected a special, private budget (not under HR’s budget) dedicated to their coaching activities. At our November meeting, Louise will share a case study on how she dealt with the Vice Chairman’s pet coaches at World Headquarters, defined a global solution for coaching, and sourced a global vendor through an RFP process for outsourced coaching services that was managed under the EVP of HR.  She will also discuss how she stood up an internal coaching function to focus on executive assessment and coaching at the same time as launching this world-wide initiative. The EMC Coaching Program was so successful that Louise was recognized by the Chief Learning Officer Magazine as the Gold Award recipient for Professional Practice. EMC also won the Top 125 Corporate Universities Award several years in a row, as did another of Louise’s employers, AT&T.
