Elected Officials and WSSHRM

Posted on 13 Feb at 5:52 pm

Our local chamber, Greater WS, Inc., hosted the 2023 Legislative Breakfast on Friday, February 10, 2023.   Advocacy is an important focus for the local WS business community and critical to navigating the numerous economic development challenges that also impact the world of work.

Representing WSSHRM chapter members, Debi and I attended the Legislative Breakfast to learn more about the current priorities federal, state, city/county local N C elected officials are working on for 2023. Also present was Terri Cummings, V P of Talent and Workforce for Greater WS, Inc who generously serves on our WSSHRM BOD.

Please visit the Greater WS Inc. website to see what’s happening with local advocacy in our community.  https://www.winstonsalem.com/advocacy/guiding-principles/

Federal legislators were invited to speak to our gathering and we were fortunate to talk with Paul Lowe and Virginia Foxx.

Senator Paul Lowe, NC District 32 – https://www.ncleg.gov/Members/IntroducedBills/S/394

Rep. Virginia Foxx represents NC’s 5th Congressional District and is currently serving as the Chairwoman for the Education and Workforce Committee which impacts legislation directly related to the human resources world of work.  https://foxx.house.gov/issues/issue/?IssueID=60408

Other Education and Workforce committee members from NC include:  Kathy Manning, 6th District and Alma Adams, 12th District.

A special thanks to our district leaders for their insights.

Left to Right, Debi Reynolds, President WSSHRM, NC Senator Paul Lowe, Dist. 32, NC Rep. Virginia Foxx, 5th Congressional District, Cheryl Jeffries, Govt Affairs Director, NCSHRM.
