The month of March is designated as Women’s History Month in the United States. Women’s History Month is a celebration of the historical achievements and accomplishments that women have made, and will continue to make, to our country. This celebration has evolved from Women’s History Day in 1909, to Women’s History Week in 1978, to now Women’s History Month in 1987. Each year, there is a theme. This year’s theme has carried over from last year’s, and that is “Valiant Women of the Vote: Refusing to Be Silenced.”
This year, I am taking this month to not only celebrate all of the accomplishments that women have achieved throughout the years, but to draw strength from them. To never settle, to fight for what I feel is fair and just, and to be a beacon of light for other women. We are breaking down barriers and shattering each and every glass ceiling that we can!
As professionals in Human Resources, women play a pivotal role in the decisions that are made to craft and shape our industry. We have come such a long way, and the journey continues. We need to stay in the fight so that the number of women sitting at decision-making tables increase.
NCSHRM joins the rest of the Nation in celebrating Women’s History Month, and I personally would like to take this opportunity to say Happy Women’s History Month. Let’s continue to break down silos, and be the rockstars that we were born to be!
