Patterned after One City One Book, NC HR Professionals Read Together will serve as the launch for NCSHRM's inaugural Diversity Book Club and also celebrate Global Diversity Awareness Month. Its aim is to focus attention on Diversity and Inclusion issues and encourage HR Professionals throughout North Carolina to read the same book, discuss it, and use the information gleaned from reading and discussing the book to make their respective workplaces more diverse and inclusive. Diversity Book Club
The book selected to launch the book club and this statewide diversity reading initiative in celebration of Global Diversity Awareness Month is What If? Short Stories to Spark Diversity Dialogue by Steve L. Robbins. Each section of the book will be discussed via conference call beginning on Thursday, October 26th at 4:00 PM EST and continuing on Thursdays at 4:00 PM EST through November 30th with Thursday, November 23rd off in observance of Thanksgiving. The dial-in number for the calls will be provided to all registrants. The discussion schedule is as follows:
* October 26th - Reframing the World
* November 2nd - Revising Mental Models
* November 9th - Leading and Doing
* November 16th - Changing the Organization
* November 23rd - Observe Thanksgiving holiday
* November 30th - Afterword
Participants will need to register by sending Letitia Smith an email at email@example.com including your full name, email address and state in the subject line, NCSHRM DIVERSITY BOOK CLUB. The first 15 people to register will receive a FREE copy of the book! If you are one of the first 15 people to register, you will receive an email response from Letitia notifying you that you are one of the selected few to receive a FREE book and coordinate with you shipping logistics. Other participants may purchase the book from the SHRM Book Store here or from Amazon. REGISTRATION ENDS at 5:00 PM EST on Wednesday, October 4th.
Important to note is that What If? Short Stories to Spark Diversity Dialogue has been approved for recertification credit. To receive credit, 1) read the book, 2) take and pass a 10-question quiz on SHRM's E-Learning platform, and 3) receive the program ID to log for credit.
